Giveaway for Signed Paperback Books: The Emperor’s Edge and Dark Currents

Paperbacks Emperor's Edge and Dark CurrentsUpdate: The contest is now over, and the winners are Claire, Karen B., and Rochelle. Thanks for entering everyone! I’m sure I’ll do this again soon.

* * *

It’s taken me a while (a loooong while) to get paperback versions of The Emperor’s Edge and Dark Currents out there, but it has officially happened. And…

I ordered some copies, and I’d like to give them away. Signed, of course. I’ve been practicing my signature, seeing if I can bring it back to 5th-grade-penmanship level (that’s the last time I remember it being legible), and I think I’m getting close.

How to enter to win:

This is a very complicated contest with many hoops that must be navigated. First get on Twitter and tweet about it a zillion times, then link to my site from your blog, then like my Facebook page, then stand on a freeway off-ramp with a sign that promotes my books to passersby….

Okay, not really. Leave a comment below and let me know you want ’em.

I’m giving away three sets (EE and DC together), and at least two sets will go to folks who are newsletter subscribers (if you’re a subscriber, use the email you signed up with when you leave your comment below). It’s not too late to subscribe — just fill out the form in the menu on the right.

The “drawing” will be held on October 7th. I’ll use an online random winner picker to select the winners (or, I’ll close my eyes, spin around three times, and point to the screen).

The giveaway is open to everybody. If you win and you live somewhere far away and exotic, I do expect you to let me crash on your couch for a night if I ever come visit your country.

Thanks for entering!

While you’re waiting to see if you won, give The Emperor’s Edge podiobook a try. The first seven chapters are up now, and you can subscribe to get the rest automatically delivered to your iPod or other mp3 player.

Update (Monday the 19th):

Thanks for the comments and all the kind words, folks! A couple of you asked about where to buy them (just in case you don’t win), and they’re showing up now on the regular (ebook) page at Amazon. They’re not available yet at Barnes & Noble, but here’s the Amazon link for Emperor’s Edge and for Dark Currents. They’re pricy (alas, self-publishing may be economical when it comes to ebooks, but that’s not the case with POD paperbacks), but they’re 6″ x 9″ so similar to a trade paperback. Thanks for your interest!

  5. Marva Dasef says:

I was waiting for the multiple questions, hunting down trivia on the web, or standing outside shouting LINDSAY I WANT A BOOK!

Whew. Glad I only need to leave a comment. I am on your newsletter list mgdasef at gmail dot com

I’ll make my entry sweeter. Donate your print books to a local school or library, and just send me the ebooks.

    My signature sucks.

  6. Peter Seaton says:

An “an online random winner picker”?

    Oh, please. Blah!

I think that the “close my eyes, spin around three times, and point to the screen” method has more style.

  7. Sue London says:

Awesome! Signed copies of your books would be a fabulous addition to my library. Also, I’m considering getting a table for the Virginia Festival of the Book, so would you have some copies available for me to stock there? It would be next March.

  8. Peter Seaton says:

You should go back one more year. There was a story, just this morning, on CBS that claimed that penmanship peaks in the fourth grade.

  9. Diana Hinshaw says:

Would love to have signed copies.

  10. Scott says:

I am very excited to see print copies of these books! It would be awesome to win some signed copies. I picked up Encrypted today (finally) so I’ll be reading that waiting for the announcement.

    Scott

  11. Hi,

I’d love to get your works on paper (in addition to the ebook version I already got from Smashwords and recommended basically everywhere I got around to mentioning belletristics).

    🙂 Ann

  12. Chris says:

While I love e-books, nothing beats holding a bound copy (especially a signed one)!

  13. Miles Marker says:

Love that you have been able to have them published in paperback. Would love a copy so that I can share it’s wonderfulness with others. =o) Great books, thanks!

  16. Bonnie Rae says:

I would love to win! Thanks for hosting a giveaway!

  17. Gail says:

How wonderful! Yes please and thanks very much for offering them up!

  18. Bobbi L. says:

I’ve talked about how much I love your books to everyone I know and I’m really excited about paperback versions! Now I’ll be able to force my friends to read them because they don’t have the very annoying “I don’t like eBooks” excuse.
By the way, I love the cover art for these almost as much as I love Amaranthe! 😀
Hope everything’s going well for you these days and I can’t wait for Book 3 of this series!

  19. Kelly W. says:

I’m an avid reader. Just got a new bookshelf and would love to see these on it!!

Newsletter subscribed using the email used to post this comment.
    Thanks!

    Erika

  21. Liana Brooks says:

Oooo! Beautiful! I’d love them. :o)

  22. Lauren says:

A chance at that much awesomeness, and all I have to do is leave a comment? Count me in! Any books that make total strangers on airplanes ask why I keep smiling at my Kindle deserve a place of pride on my shelf.

  23. Josh says:

I’ve loved every book that you’ve put out that I’ve been able to get my hands on, so having the opportunity to literally get my hands on them would be great – keep up the great writing.

Oh, and I’m in the same boat of “if I have a physical copy, maybe it will be easier to share with my friends…” 🙂

As for style of making the choices…. I agree, the spin around three times and point at the screen seems more your style ;-).

P.S. I’m also on your mailing list 🙂

  24. Seema says:

Thanks for this awesome contest, I would love to read them as those covers look awesome.

  25. Holly says:

I would love signed copies~! Many congrats of getting paperback versions published. I am excited to be able to tell folks that they have more options (and no excuse not to) read these books!

  26. Oh! Me! Can I win them? Please, please please? =D

  27. ceae says:

This makes my day. Now I won’t have to explain why I’m always staring at my phone.

  28. Vyla says:

Since your eBooks are so modestly priced and these paperbacks are free (wait, did I read all of the tiny, fine print correctly?), I will donate a $1 to every homeless person I encounter this week. As I work in the heart of Washington, DC this could be an expensive philanthropic endeavor…may be easier to fund the Obama Job Bill…kidding about the latter, but not the former. Also, I get these crazy requests from folks willing to transfer $ from foreign accounts to mine in order to procure my homemade brownies. Willing to share either brownies or the crazy email requests…

I like the character camaraderie you develop. When I read one of your books, I feel I’ve stepped into a group of friends, who share laughter, teasing and adventure. Thanks!

  29. Nick Devonald says:

Why practice your signature, the worse it is the more unique! Congrats on the paperback edition!

  30. Beth Cato says:

I’d love to have signed copies!

  31. Charlotte says:

I do live somewhere far away (not sure about exotic…?) but I feel compelled to sign up anyway.

  32. Lucie Le Blanc says:

Except for FB, I can spread the word ! I love Emperor’s edge !
You have now a place to stay around Québec City if ever you come up here : not exotic but very cold in winter. 😉
Will these awesome books be available for purchase if one doesn’t win ? I totally crave paper. 😉

  33. Wendy says:

I super glad you got your books in to print! Reading e-books is super easy and affordable but sometimes I just like an old fashion book in my hand.

It would be great to have a book of yours! I love them. They make me laugh so hard sometimes and the OCD that shows up in them just makes them so much better.

I look forward to the rat race of getting a book. Like everyone else…. I hope its ME!!!! Thanks for the chance.

  34. Lindsay, glad to see the books in print. Congrats on that. I’m not entering my name here (I’ve gone 110% digital), but just wanted to stop by and cheer you on!

  35. Glynes says:

Yes please! I would be honored to add your work to my library!! And look forward to further encounters in the Twitterverse!

  36. Matthew Belleville says:

I have loved your books and the world in which you crafted. I have had plenty of fun drawing out the geography of the land as the story line continues. The characters have developed beautifully, and I have grown attached. If I am not so lucky to obtain them from your giveaway I may just have to buy myself. Can not wait for the next one!

  37. Sarah McCurry says:

ME! ME! ME!!! I want the giveaway booksssssss!!!!!

  38. Cathy Keaton says:

Sure, I’ll enter the giveaway! Those books look very beautiful. I have yet to read this series, but I’m looking forward to it!

  39. I’ve already bought e-books versions, but I’d love to donate print copies to my library. (The not so evil Day Job.)

If I don’t win, I’ll probably just buy them anyway, so no biggie if I don’t win. LOL.

  40. It’s getting cold here in WA, and I need something to keep me warm at night. I’m quickly running out of cereal boxes and community college leaflets to read, so if you’re looking for a place to home your signed books, I have room.

    Honest.

  41. Fiona says:

I’m here! I’m here! I want one, please!

  42. Bri says:

I’d love to enter the giveaway for a chance to win the paper back versions. The covers look great.

I love your books and have read them all. I can’t wait for the next installment of the Emperors Edge Series. I’d love to add the paperback versions to my book shelf and read them all over again =D.

  43. Donna says:

I would love a chance to own signed copies of your wonderful books. Looking forward to October for two reasons now!!!
    Donna

  44. carol says:

Bookaholics dream…and just in time for my anniversary!

  45. Karen says:

Count me in. I just finished re-reading both Emperor’s Edge books and would love to have hard copies. A scribble on ’em either legible or illegible makes the prize even better.

Hopefully the rest of the characters will keep bugging you to apply fingers to keyboard. With that crew running around loose in your head heaven knows what will happen if you don’t.

  46. sylvia morrison says:

i enjoyed reading the Encrypted, very imagitive and i loved learning about the main characters. I also enjoyed both the ebook versions of the Emporer’s Edge. and Dark Currents. I would be interested in receiving the paperback editions. I am now in the process of reading the kindle edition of Flash Gold. I hope it is as goood as your others. Looking forward to new books from you. Keep it up.

  47. Jenna says:

Oh boy, oh boy!!!!! Pick me pick me pick me!!! In case you couldn’t tell, I’d LOVE to win my own autographed Emperor’s Edge and Dark Current books :D.

  48. Sara says:

    The books look great!

  49. m.s. jackson says:

    Awesome! Congrats on the paperbacks!

  50. Angelica says:

I want them!! I want them!!! I love a book in hand better then my darn ebooks! I want them! I want them! (Hmmm…what else am I supposed to say?) I want them!!!

  51. Karen B. says:

I too would love a signed copy of your books. Please, keep the stories coming, they are wonderful. I love the characters. I’m fond of Amaranthe she is like the glue. But Sicarius is so my favorite character from his first introduction in Encrypted on. Cedar is like Sicarius but in steampunk fashion. Thank you, thank you.

  52. Madeleine Kenney says:

Ah! I want these. Ebooks are great but there’s nothing like having them in person. 🙂

  53. Rae says:

I would love to add these to my shelf for treasured copies! These books are my new addiction, keep ’em coming!

  54. Cathryn Leigh says:

Oh Oh Oh I loved signed copies of book! *grin*

Saddly I don’t think I live any where exotic enough, but my couch is comfy. (Though you could be woken up at 8 am by two very cheerful and active children.)

And when they are old enough I’ll start reading these books to them.. or let them read them. I love story time. *giggles*

  55. Thomas Giles says:

Just posted a mid-way review based on the podiobook series. http://bit.ly/n1Kdtl

Hope you like it… I started reading your email, where it said “link to my site on your blog”, and I thought— why not?

Oh, and yeah— I would love a copy of these books! As I don’t have a kindle or nook, it tricky for me to read the eBooks at the moment. ;{ And it would be awesome to have a signed “first edition”, too! 😛

  56. brea says:

Congratulations on the paperbacks! I love this series, and can’t wait to see where it goes. Keep being awesome!

  57. Corie Weaver says:

Super excited to see them out! And yes, we have a cot (couch is a bit small)

  58. Theresa says:

This is exciting! I would totally love to have paperback versions of such awesome books. Amaranthe rocks!

  59. Mel says:

Oo I loved both books and having actual hardcopies to show off would be fun! If you ever get stuck in the central states you can always bum my couch, but sadly there’s not a lot to do here but look at corn.

  60. Jess says:

Do I ever! Honestly who would not, these books are a smörgåsbord of complete awesome. Thank you for creating such compelling characters and I can not wait until the next book is released.

  61. Joe L. says:

It started when my wife sent me Ice Cracker II, then I was lost for a couple of days while I went through Emporer’s Edge, Dark Currents, and Encrypted.

VERY good books and I cannot wait for the next one!

I love that Books had a higher bounty than Maldynado…

Oh, and check out Whitechapel Gods by S.M peters. You’ll like it 🙂

  64. Gwen says:

They are beautiful! Even if I don’t win I think I will have to buy a set. Were can we order them from?

  65. Kirsten Carroll says:

One way or another I’m definitely going to own this series in print…I haven’t had a book grab me and keep my mind firmly planted in its world in the longest of times. Yet with each book I’ve read I find myself reliving events of the stories over and over again. The world is so clear and so easily entered. I can’t thank you enough for sharing your works with us all‼ Congratulations on the publication in print of your works‼

P.s. The Flash Gold series is also equally amazing ♥

  66. Josh Curtis says:

I have only read Flash Gold. But I loved it. Just started the second one. I have read nearly every post on this blog. Besides writing great stories, you have also shared a wealth of knowledge and I’m sure inspired many new indie writers as you have me. Congratulations on the continuing growth in your sales. If anyone deserves to be writing fiction full time, it’s you. Because that’s what your fans deserve too! Just cheat everyone else and send me the books.

  67. Ellen says:

Congrats on getting paper copies! Your books are great and I hope many people keep reading and enjoying them. Of course I would love paper copies of your books to display proudly on my shelves. If you are ever in Arkansas (though not at all exotic) you always have a couch available.

  68. The books look awesome. Would love to win them!

  69. Amy Laurens says:

Yay! Books! They are sooo pretty, Lindsay. You must be stoked :o)

I live in Australia, and you are more than welcome to crash here 😀

  70. K Gorman says:

Sure, I’ll leave a comment to win a prize. My mom still has to read your books. (She hasn’t quite made the jump to e-reading.)

  71. Raymond says:

I loved The Emperor’s Edge and I can’t wait to read Dark Currents! Keep up the good work!

  72. Rochelle says:

Hey!! Thanx for hosting the competition 🙂
I read The Emperor’s Edge yesterday & Dark Currents today.

It’s been a while since I’ve loved a series so much that I’m going to constantly search for any teaser chapters/little bits of info for the next book.
[Last time I did this was after Magic Strikes – KD 03 – Ilona Andrews).

When I started bk 02 I hoped that Sicarius & Amaranthe would at least share a kiss, maybe something more intimate 😉 . But the last 5 pages were enough. It must have taken a lot of courage to confess to him, and his reaction wasn’t what I expected.
My 3rd fav character is Maldynado. I think behind his joking facade is a genuine great guy. I’m looking forward to read more of his history.

Thank You for writing such an amazing series!!!! 😀

  80. Nina says:

Hey! I’d really like to win copies of your books. Reading ebooks is great but nothing beats holding a real book in your hands.

I’d love to have these! Put my name in the hat, please.

  82. Laura says:
