Emperor’s Edge 5 Update

I’ve been off on a road trip this week, so posts have been a bit sparse, but I thought I’d mention that I finished the rough draft of EE5 today. It’s a little over 125,000 words right now, though I’ll shave some of that off when I’m editing. As most of you guys know, Maldynado is the secondary point-of-view character in this one, and he does have a tendency to be verbose and hog the page (he denies the former and, for the latter, points out that he is the most interesting character, so it’s only natural).

This puppy still doesn’t have a title (perhaps I should host another contest?), but I’ll start in on editing soon. A while back, I mentioned September for the release goal, and I should be able to make that happen. I may have to bribe editors and beta readers with chocolate and coffee, but that’s just part of the game.

Thanks for checking in. I’ll start posting some teasers and excerpts and such when things are a little further along. (I believe we’ll have a Maldynado-centric interview or two as well–as he said, it’s only natural.)

Yay you’ve made my day!! Can’t wait!!!

  2. Krystal says:

Awesome news Lindsay, you’re the best! πŸ˜€

And if I may be so bold, maybe the book can be called ‘Maldynado: The Story of Turgonia’s Really, Really Ridiculously Good-Looking and Brave Hero, Plus Some Other Stuff People He Knew Got Up To’.

    Catchy, right? πŸ˜‰

    • Krystal says:

Also, excerpts and interview soon; you spoil us Lindsay! πŸ™‚

    • Rebekah says:

That sounds like a title Maldynado would come up with. πŸ˜€

    • Lindsay says:

I will totally talk to my cover designer and see if that would fit…. πŸ˜€ (Maybe as a subtitle if nothing else?)

      • Krystal says:

I’m honoured! πŸ˜€ Though, I think so long as Mal’s name is somewhere prominent in really (*really*) huge lettering that would be appropriate – I daresay it’ll keep him happy too; can’t be easy being his wrangler. πŸ˜‰

On a serious note, you’re my favourite author atm Lindsay, and cannot be more excited for the book! πŸ™‚

  3. Rebekah says:

I can hardly wait! I’ll have to finish up Les Miserables soon.

  4. lectorsbooks says:

Any chance of a contest or anything to get our hands on an ARC? or volunteer as beta readers? Two months is so long!!! πŸ™‚

    And I second Krystle’s title.

    • Lindsay says:

Hm, we’ll have to see! I usually publish the book as soon as I get it back from the editor, so it’d have to be an early un-edited version. I’m not sure how much of a treat that would be. πŸ˜›

  5. Jenna says:

Hurrah! Can’t wait to see things from Maldynado’s POV πŸ˜‰

Just wanted to drop in and say you have several new readers of the series in our forum on Amazon who are or soon will be desperately looking for book 5. Feel free to drop in sometime and lurk (and of course read awesome stuff we write about your books and others):)

    • Lindsay says:

Hey Douglas, thanks for chatting up the books over there!

The last time I tried to post on an Amazon forum (someone was asking when the next Flash Gold story was due out, and I answered), Amazon deleted my post. They don’t seem to be too open to authors talking about their own books over there. πŸ™

      • Douglas Meeks says:

We have a couple of authors in our forum, ya just gotta be in stealth mode I think πŸ™‚ They have some invisible line between talking about your book and promoting your book. Talking is allowed, promoting is not but then again almost everyone in our forum gets something deleted regularly since their language rules are overly strict but it does mean I can’t REALLY insult anyone LOL

  7. Tempest says:

Once again, thanks for keeping your faithful, rabid readers in the loop. We really do appreciate it.

  8. Miriam says:

I was trying to think of a catchy title for book 5…. something that sums up Maldy’s pleasure in being from the warrior caste but his simultaneous growth as he realizes what a person does has greater value than their pedigree…

And I hit on the perfect title:

    Pride and Prejudice!

Seriously, I think it would sell well… πŸ™‚

    • Douglas Meeks says:

Well, without actually knowing the plot (an ARC would help:) assuming that at some point he will get his pedigree back with a lot of wisdom he never had how about something like “The Long Road Home”, not that original but I think it says something.

  9. Aurora says:

Yay! I’m looking forward to reading this!:)
